McLean County has moved almost entirely out of severe drought conditions after winter storms provided some muchneeded moisture. According to the National Weather
Service, North Dakota drought conditions have improved overall since October, with significant relief observed after December and January snowfall. Drought conditions in the state saw little change in November and early December before taking a turn for the better in the most recent report, released this week. The holiday precipitation, which dropped upwards of 10 inches of snow on central North Dakota, moved the majority of McLean County from severe to moderate drought conditions. A small section of northwest McLean County remains in severe drought, along with portions of western North Dakota. McLean County has consistently maintained D4 exceptional drought conditions throughout the summer and
fall of 2021 and was one of a handful of N.D. counties consistently in this worst classification of drought conditions throughout the year.
