Garrison has a new mayor, two council members retained their seats and the current mayor was denied a seat on the council by a write-in candidate.
The city’s current mayor, Dave Reinarts, was the lone candidate to file for a two-year seat on the council. But his bid came up short. He received 70, or 30.97 percent of the votes. Though a final breakdown of write-ins was unavailable at press time, county officials noted that Susan Steinwand (a write-in candidate) had received more than 70 votes. Write-in candidates picked up 156 votes, or 69.03 percent.
Shannon Jeffers, who was unopposed, will be the city’s new mayor come June 22. He received 206 votes. There were 10 write-ins. Battling it out for three seats on the council were four candidates; aldermen Steve Hasenwinkel and Chad Betz, and George Lauinger and Chris Gratton. Coming out on top were Hasenwinkel (192 votes – 29.91 percent), Betz (198 votes – 30.84 percent) and Gratton (172 votes – 26.79 percent). Lauinger received 70 votes or 10.90 percent, and there were 10 write-ins.
