Rensch Farm Store sold

By STU MERRY

A family tradition in Garrison that’s spanned more than 62 years is coming to a close.

Rensch Farm Store is in the process of being sold. The new owner is Plains Ag.

Dave Rensch said with the changing farm economy there’s little room for small independent businesses. The trend is to bigger corporations who are better positioned to compete in the marketplace.

"We are a dinosaur, being here by ourselves, doing business versus bigger companies," he said.

Rensch said the family started talking about selling the business a year ago. A letter of intent has been signed. Employees were told of the sale Dec. 14.

As an independent dealer, a variety of things came into play regarding the decision.

"It was about time," Rensch said.

Chad, the youngest family member of the business, and Harold, the eldest, was the biggest concern.

"I want to retire," Rensch said.
