Saddle Up brings riders from all over

BY TYSON SMEDSTAD
“It’s just a wonderful thing,” Saddle Up Against Cancer Organizer Clarissa Godsack said.
Riders come from Almont, Carrington, Bismarck, Washburn and Wilton participated in the trail ride near New Johns Lake near Wilton.
“The furthest one we’ve ever had was Chicago (come for the ride),” Godsack said.
And they couldn’t have picked a better day for it. Saturday morning was cool with a light breeze.
A total of 34 horses came for the ride, plus there were watchers and around 20 volunteers were there to help.
Goldsack explained that almost everyone has been touched in some way by someone who has been diagnosed with cancer.
“My mother went through three bouts with cancer and my older sister was just diagnosed with breast cancer, so it means a lot to this committee,” Godsack said. “I don’t know anybody who doesn’t know somebody whose been affected.”
This committee has been together for nine years. There had been members previously that had come and gone.
Godsack and her granddaughter rode together every year and now Daisy is also a member of the committee. She was three years old the first year.
“The first year she rode double with me, the second year she doubled with me again ... the next year when she was four she had a pony,” Godsack said. “Then she got a big horse.”
She has rode every year since.
Randy Schraff came all the way from New Salem and have been riding for years.
