Garrison Council reorganizes
BY TYSON SMEDSTAD

“I guess the party is over,” Mayor Stu Merry said to former city council member Glen Nygard.
“Thank you,” Nygard said with a laugh as he took his plaque and left with a handshake and wave at the reorganizational meeting for the Garrison City Council last Tuesday.
Nygard was a council alderman for 24 years.
Former council members John Matthews and Marcus Matthews, also outgoing council members, did not attend the meeting.
“The  bottom line is we are working to serve our community and make it a cleaner, safer, more friendly place to live, and the city is one spoke in that wheel to make this the best place to live,” Merry reminded the council. “Do your best to keep the community first.”
Council members will receive $300 per month and will be paid in one lump sum in January. The Municipal Judge will receive $200 per month.
Councilman Jeffery inquired on donating his salary back to the city. City Auditor Diane Affeldt is figuring out how to make that happen.
