School board accepts resignations

By CHERYL ODDEN

"With regret."

When Garrison School Board members were informed of two staff resignations Monday evening, those words were included as they accepted the resignations.

Kirsten Welk, a kindergarten teacher for the district the past few years, provided a written resignation.

Before the close of the meeting, the board heard a verbal resignation from Jennifer Bowerman, the district’s business manager. Bowerman noted that she and her husband will be moving to Bismarck and that she has accepted employment there. Superintendent Steve Brannan said "This is going to be a huge challenge to find a replacement." The district will advertise to fill Welk’s and Bowerman’s positions.

On a positive note, Brannan reported that one upcoming vacancy has been filled. Mary Mikkelson-Mattheis has been hired as an administrative assistant. She will replace Judy Betz who is retiring at the end of the school year. Mikkelson-Mattheis, a Garrison High School graduate, will begin job-shadowing with Betz mid-April. She is married to Jason Mattheis, a Garrison High School teacher and coach.
