School expansion presented
Max board advances proposal

Officials at Max got a close-up look this past week at what is being proposed in a school expansion/remodel project.
Todd Mitzel with ICON Architectural Group presented a master plan concept to board members at their regular monthly meeting. The ICON plan includes new construction, major remodel, minor remodel and mechanical/electrical upgrades.
The projected cost estimate is approximately $7.8 million. That estimate does not include a parking expansion/resurfacing portion, which Mitzel said would be about another $700,000. A greenhouse would be in the $200,000 vicinity.
The proposal is still flexible, including, what Mitzel said, is "everything."
"It’s still flexible," he said, saying it’s a place to start.
The initial plan includes pavement replacement and expansion of the parking lot. Included in the proposal is a green house and bus barn – something that has been discussed and on the board’s wish list for some time.
Mitzel said setting a strategy is important. He told the board now is a good time to act with favorable interest rates. "The sooner we get this out for bids the better," he said.
Mitzel asked the board to get a feel of what the public thinks.
Board President Dennis Erickson liked what was presented. "We are showing what we really need," he said.
