Sheriff’s department needs deputies

The turnover of McLean County Sheriff’s deputies continues as the county is currently seeking at least two more deputies for coverage in the county.
County officials have been advertising for one or more deputies. Sheriff Don Charging said he recently let one deputy from the Garrison area go, so instead of one, two are being sought.
There are 14 to 15 applicants for the deputy positions and at least half are certified.
While those positions need filling, county commissioner Barry Suydam brought up the need for more rural patrol. He said that with increased traffic all over the county, more eyes are needed in the rarely monitored rural areas. He suggested oil impact money to pay for it.
“We’ve got to nip some of it,” Suydam said.
Charging agreed that the county is a busier place.
