GARRISON – This past week of snow is one for the books, Garrison’s mayor said at the conclusion of the blizzard which blanketed the state with snow last week. “As far as I can tell, this is the second snowiest December on record with the most being 30 inches in 1964,” said Stu Merry, who records weather statistics for the National Weather Service Bismarck. According to Merry, between 17 to 18 inches of snow fell in Garrison, the majority of which – about eight inches – fell last Tuesday on the first day of the blizzard which stretched over the week. Added to the 15 inches of snow which fell in November, Merry said that the weather is close to surpassing the average winter snowfall of 37.26 inches – and the season has just begun; Merry noted the winter season is typically from October to April, from first snowfall to last. On Tuesday, National Weather Service issued a wind chill warning for most of the state, including McLean County, through Saturday morning.
