Street work set to begin

By STU MERRY

Motorists traveling on Fourth Street in the east part of Garrison may have to choose another route soon. Work should begin this week to replace aging cast iron water mains on a four-plus block stretch of Fourth Street.

Two other areas, Third Avenue NW and Second Avenue SE, are also on the docket for work this summer.

At their meeting Monday night, the Garrison City Council reviewed a report by the Utilities Committee. Seeing what was proposed, the council agreed it’s time to stop talking and get to work.

At the May 4 committee meeting, members prioritized water and sewer improvement projects. The committee agreed the cast iron water mains with bad streets above should be replaced first.
