Tower, infrastructure work addressed

Garrison’s new water tower has begun reaching to the sky.
Maguire Iron, Inc., of Sioux Falls, S.D. has in place the base and first section of stand pipe. Additional standpipe sections are en route. Completion is expected to take about two months.
Brian Julius, project engineer with Moore Engineering, met with the city council at a special meeting Monday, updating them on the tower’s progress as well as to talk about other municipal projects.
The water tower will be 400,000-gallon capacity. The original twin towers’ storage was 90,000 gallons. The cost is approximately $1.8 million.
The tower is a single leg structure and fits in the footprint of the former "cold" tower. The "hot" tower will remain in service until the new tower is ready. The project includes new piping at the site.
At the south end of town, the lagoon project continues, but work is being questioned. Concerns have been raised about material that’s being used. Clay has been taken from the city landfill, but is on the sandy side.
