Taxable sales take a tumble

Taxable sales figures in McLean County had a mid-course adjustment for the first quarter of 2015.
Information provided by the State Tax Department shows first quarter taxable sales for McLean County fell 13.39 percent.
Washburn saw its taxable sales for January, February and March take a hard hit, falling 29.15 percent, while first quarter taxable sales for Garrison decreased a modest 1.96 percent.
At the state level, the tax department said North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases for the first quarter of 2015 saw a slight increase over the first quarter in 2014. Taxable sales and purchases for January, February and March of 2015 were $5.826 billion, a 2.26 percent increase over those months in 2014.
"With declining oil prices in the first quarter of this year, we expected to see negative economic impact including a decrease in North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases," said State Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger. "An increase of 2.26 percent is a good sign."
