Territorial Inn open for business

Travel plaza to open by July 4

By Jerry W. Kram

A place to rest your weary head.

That’s what the region has been missing since the influx of population associated with the Bakken Boom has tied up just about every bed for miles around. But there is a new place where weary travelers can stop an find nice warm bed for the evening or a weekend.

The Territorial Inn has been under construction for most of the winter and spring near the junction of North Dakota Highways 23 and 8, just west of the Scenic 23. The 44 room motel features king and queen size beds, a laundry for guests, and an up to date continental breakfast. The décor features vintage pictures of the Van Hook community as well some of the other communities around the area. The rates for the hotel are $125 a night. The Territorial Inn will be a traditional motel and not an extended stay motel.

Just to the west of the hotel will be the Territorial Travel Center. The 10,000 square foot convenience store will carry groceries and snacks, hot food including pizza and chicken, and seven diesel fuel islands and seven gas islands to serve travelers. The center will also have 75 truck parking spots, which will be heated, and a lounge and showers catering to truckers. The Travel Center should open in the next 10 days.
