Thank you, Spirit of Christmas

Thank you, Spirit of Christmas

Anonymous gifts received by food pantry

A Christmas miracle happened on Friday in Garrison.
An anonymous donor that would only like to be known as the “Spirit of Christmas” blessed the Garrison Food Pantry with three pallets of donated food.
“(Krause’s employees) can’t tell us if they are local. They just said he came in a started picking out food,” food pantry coordinator Dawn Kolden said. “Even the grocery store was buzzing because it was so exciting.”
Krause’s said they have never had something like this happen before.
Kolden received the call about the donation around 9:30 a.m. that morning, and the whirlwind day began.
“When the grocery store called this morning I thought ‘I’ll just make a few trips’. Then they said you’re going to need a flatbed.” Kolden said. “I thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to call Sonja’.”
Garrison Area Resource Center board member Sonja Moe went into work mode. She rounded up a few McLean Electric Cooperative employees to make the trips back and forth with the pallets of food.
Physical Education teacher Luke Gehring has brought his classes down previously to help load in donations, so Kolden knew exactly who to call to help.
Science teacher Jenny Hirsh had also inquired about having her class help out, so she offered her Ecology class.
“They are hardworking kids and they are good when they are here. It’s really nice,” Kolden said.
Both classes were at the pantry at 1:30 p.m. ready to go.
