The lake is up – so is excitement

What single thing does it take to put a smile on the face of a whole lot of people?
This year, the answer is something simple – water.
Not only is water a staple of life, for many communities it is a staple of a healthy local economy.
It nourishes people’s spirits just as abundantly as it nourishes the local businesses, the lifeblood of the community.
Jeff Husebye, Garrison, knows the importance of Lake Sakakawea and of those who choose it as a recreation destination.
Husebye, who is sales manager at Magic City RV, Minot, has seen how the lake level impacts people’s lives. Eleven years ago, the business sold boats as well as recreational vehicles. Due, in part, to an extended drought and low lake levels, the business quit selling boats and concentrated on RV sales.
This year, Husebye noted, people are especially excited about a chance to get out and enjoy nature. “People are always commenting on the lake.” He added, “There’s a general buzz that the lake is full … the parents are happy and the kids are excited.”
When Husebye isn’t helping customers, he takes advantage of Garrison’s close proximity to Fort Stevenson State Park. One thing he has noticed while driving through the park is that its campsites are often filled to capacity.
