Trail gains traction

Transportation grant received

By STU MERRY

The announcement that a Transportation Alternative Program grant of $80,000 has been approved for a proposed walking/hiking/biking trail in Wilderness Park received a round of applause from Garrison Chamber of Commerce members at their regular meeting Monday.

The TAP grant is from the N.D. Department of Transportation. Making the announcement was chamber’s Community Development Committee member Mike Matteson. Funds are also for signage and lighting.

In the new comprehensive plan for the city that is in its final stages – a public hearing is the final step – a walking/hiking/biking trail is at the top of the list of desired amenities to enhance the community.
