City council approves trap range northeast of city

A trap shooting range is set to be established northeast of the city.
The Garrison City Council voted unanimously last Tuesday to establish the range on a reclaimed portion of the landfill, located on 18th Street NW, northeast of Garrison.
The city council also proposed to lease the space to the Garrison Sportsmen’s Club – with the appropriate insurance – for a three-year lease for $1 per year, or $3 total.
The Garrison Sportsmen’s Club previously leased a shooting range 10 miles west of Garrison, but the land was recently sold, explained Mike Youngs, president of the club.
While the club can still shoot out there this fall, “we’d like to get something going for the trap team,” Youngs said. “ We’d like to keep that interest going. It helps kids that don’t want to do other sports.”
