Tribal officials stop waste project

Tribal officials stop waste project

By STU MERRY

The Three Affiliated Tribes Tribal council has put the kibosh to any further activity regarding the establishment of an oil and gas drilling waste disposal facility near White Shield.
At a special Three Affiliated Tribes Business Council April 2, members voted unanimously (7-0) to prohibit construction and operation of any facility of that type in the White Shield Segment of the Fort Berthold Reservation.
The resolution was signed by Tribal Business Council Executive Secretary Judy Brugh and Chairman Tex Hall.
The resolution states that the prohibition will stand unless a referendum vote of the enrolled members of the Three Affiliated Tribes who are residents of the White Shield Segment approve any future facility.
Tribal officials heard loud and clear what people thought about having a solid waste pit placed virtually in their back yard at a meeting March 19 in White Shield.
