Two big events slated for weekend

Two big events slated for weekend
By CHERYL ODDEN

With two annual attractions, there’s no reason for area residents or visitors to be bored this weekend.
Prairie Lake
Festival
Camp of the Cross Ministries will host its Prairie Lake Festival Saturday. In addition to the quilt auction, one of the event’s premier attractions, numerous other attractions will be available. Included will be a craft fair, a carnival “for kids of all ages” and special musical entertainment.
The featured musical guest is singer/songwriter Hans Peterson from Jordan, Minn. Peterson’s “folk rock style” includes several talents – singing, playing acoustic guitar and playing piano.
The auction begins at noon and features much more than a wide variety of quilts. Bids can also be placed for items such as fine jewelry and specialty gift baskets.
Those who would like to view the quilts and other auction items in advance, are welcome to do so. Viewing will be Friday from 5-7 p.m and Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m.
Those who attend the Prairie Lake Festival will also find a variety of popular refreshments. They include chipped beef sandwiches, tacos-in-a-bag, kuchen, root beer floats, popcorn, lemonade and homemade ice cream.
Camp of the Cross is nine miles southwest of Garrison. (Driving west from Garrison on Hwy 37, brown and white signs will lead festival-goers to the camp). In case of inclement weather, the festival will be held at the Garrison High School gym.
Frontier
Military Days
Those who are curious about history – and specifically life on the frontier – will have a chance to satisfy their curiosity this weekend. The 18th annual Frontier Military Days will be Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at Fort Stevenson State Park. The event offers a glimpse of what life was like at an 1870s military fort.
