Water reservoir, plant improvements planned By STU MERRY Things are falling into place in regards to proposed water system improvements in Garrison next year. The deadline for sealed bids for construction of Garrison’s proposed additional water storage facility is Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. Bids are scheduled to be opened at a apecial meeting of the city council Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The 290,000-gal. underground concrete storage tank will be located just east of the twin water towers in north Garrison. City officials said the hope is the additional storage will provide additional water to offset increased use by city and rural customers. The storage facility is one project on the drawing board for next year. Other improvements are planned for the water intake facility and water treatment plant. At the meeting was Jim Lennington with Bartlett & West Engineering, Bismarck, the city’s engineering firm. He also backgrounded city officials on the bid process for the proposed new water reservoir. In another water-related matter, Garrison Golf Course officials are seeking help in repairing a line to the golf course that tees off from the main line from the lake to the water treatment plant. The line was installed about four years ago but has not been utilized, city officials were told. Alderman Chad Rensch reasoned that proposed upgrades at the water intake facility, including a change to a variable drive pump, could rectify the problem. To work towards a solution, a meeting will be arranged in the near future among city and golf course officials and Lennington. Hearing an explanation, Lennington said he does not foresee any problem in rectifying the situation.
