Water system getting upgrade

A better, higher quality and more abundant water supply.
That’s the goal being sought by the Garrison City Council for users of water from the city’s water treatment plant.
Garrison Mayor Dave Reinarts and Alderman Richard Lehnherr briefed Garrison Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee members Monday on what is on tap when it comes to upgrades and expansion of the city’s water supply system.
The nice part to all of this is that the improvements will not add any additional expense to the customer. Rates will not need to be raised to accommodate the expansion and upgrade, Reinarts and Lehnherr said.
The first activity local residents will see this spring is when construction begins on a 290,000-gal. underground concrete storage tank. The reservoir will be located just east of the twin water towers in north Garrison. City officials said the hope is the additional storage will provide additional water to offset increased use by city and rural customers.
Reinarts said a contract was signed last week for $577,000 with PKG Construction of Fargo who will be in charge of building the storage facility. Funding is through North Dakota Municipal, Rural and Industrial (MR&I) Water Supply Program (MR&I).
