Welcome back!

Garrison students return for the first day of school

It was a cool, crisp August morning — the kind of day ideal for walking to school, which many students at Bob Callies Elementary School did Thursday on their first day back.
Students trickled in at 7:45 a.m., on foot, bicycle or by car. In the latter case, parents dropped off their children and many took the traditional photos outside of the elementary school.
Dr. Nick Klemisch, superintendent of schools for Garrison Public Schools, and Shelly Fuller, the elementary principal, were at the front door, waiting to greet students as they arrived.
“Welcome back for another year,” Klemisch said as he offered fist bumps to students as they strode into the building. For some, it was their first day and for others, their last first day at the elementary before graduating on to high school.
At 8 a.m., the doors opened and the early birds went inside. The elementary school’s five buses also arrived, dropping off students.
