Widen Trooper?

By STU MERRY

Should Trooper Avenue from N.D. Highway 37 to Main Street be widened? Garrison city officials are giving strong consideration to doing so.

At their June meeting, council members heard a recommendation to add a gutter system along Trooper Avenue to reduce erosion.

City Maintenance Supervisor Alan Beyreis also recommended that an asphalt overlay for Trooper Avenue be considered. The suggestion prompted further discussion with the council taking it one step further, possibly widening the avenue.

"It’s one of the busiest, if not the busiest streets in the city," Beyreis told the council.

City officials were told an additional $100,000 could be available if the city wants to make changes/improvements to Trooper Avenue. The matter was turned over to the Streets Committee.

In another street matter, city officials opted to go with the recommendation by Beyreis to take the bid from Bechtold Paving, Minot, for street patching and overlay work in the city this summer.
