Aiming for days gone by
It isn’t every day that one can hear the echoing melody of button-box alongside a firing cannon. However, that is exactly what rang through the air at Fort Stevenson State Park’s annual Frontier Military Days.

Water flows through spillway
It has only ever happened two times in the history of the Garrison Dam, and on Monday it happened a third time. For the second year in a row, water has flowed through the dam’s floodgates to lower the reservoir’s level.
District ends fiscal year in the clear
As the Garrison School district approaches its fiscal year-end, there was some good news for board members.

Rode Vocu, a 22-year-old, is facing a felony arson charge in federal court regarding the April 22 burning of the historic Elbowoods Memorial Church west of Raub.

Their days are numbered
Some may likely be over a century old, but no matter how deep their roots extend, the Ash trees in Garrison, and other western North Dakota towns, will not be providing shade and beauty for much longer. Of all the trees in Garrison, roughly 30 percent are Ash trees, and within the next decade, most are going to die from what is known as the Emerald Ash Borer.

The rural water rate structure came under fire at the Garrison district’s annual meeting Saturday.

Supt. Windish says goodbye
After four years at Max Public School, Supt. Pat Windish will be leaving the Max School District. His last day with the district will be June 30.

Ready to respond
Garrison is becoming a safer place to live than ever before. As of Thursday, the city is now considered by the North Dakota Department of Health to be a “cardiac ready community.”
